NOTES FOR THE PERFORMER
Tea, Biscuits and Muffin Dance is a folk style piece, a reel in 12/8 meter. Originally conceived as a feature for Scottish bagpipe (a parody during a show), in this version the melody is played by a keyboard (with bagpipe timbre), alto saxophone and flute. The lively melody, suitable for dancing, is paraphrased by shrill woodwinds and muted brass. The middle section has harmony in 4ths plus a counter-melody for low strings and saxophones. The piece is full of typical folk music elements (obligatory drones and pedal point, parallel 5ths, dissonance through upper part parallelism), meant for a humourous performance.
