NOTES FOR THE PERFORMER
On Purpose was commissioned as the title music for a set of video tapes for a management course. Originally it was recorded with a software sequencer, electronic keyboards and drum machine.
Here is a fresh orchestration, that still has many of the original elements, such as the lead for acoustic guitar, the shuffle rock with 16th triplet feel in the rhythm section and the harmonic background in keyboards. There is an additional orchestral layer with subtle riffs in the flutes, a few brass accents, and harmonic support by the strings.
Harmonically, the piece moves from the original key to the lowered mediant and then returns to the major key on the tonic (C - Eb - C). The character of the piece is cheerful.
