NOTES FOR THE PERFORMER
The song Part of your world by Alan Menken is from the Disney production The Little Mermaid. This arrangement, a ballad for concert band, features a solo alto saxophone.
This arrangement can also be played by smaller bands; there are non-essential parts for oboe, bassoon, 4th horn, 4th trombone (bass trombone) and acoustic double bass.
Harmonic textures are provided by the warm brass sections (lightly supported by saxphones). Three meandering flutes represent the sea waves, surrounding the mermaid. Make sure that the clarinets do not dominate over the flutes; if necessary, use 1 single player per voice only). If your band has a split keyboard, use that option; while the right hand provides string lines, the left hand plays the rhythmic pulsation using the harp sound.
Play this arrangement with lots of rubato to assist the solo saxophone player in sounding the melody. Build to an orchestral climax in mm. 41-48. The saxophone lead is briefly interrupted by a brass chorale section (mm. 49-56), a tonal sidestep from Bb to Db. Use this opportunity to feature your instrumental solo player!
